Practical Applications of Statistics Paper Steven R. Ford July 7, 2004 The statistical needs of business managers are changing as business changes. To meet those needs, the subject matter and presentations methods of statistics must change to satisfy customer requirements. Business managers needs to know how to properly present and describe information, draw conclusion about large population based only on information obtained from samples, improve processes and know how to obtain reliable forecast. The mean, median, and mode are all measures of central tendency. Measures of central tendency seek to describe the center of a distribution of scores.(pg 251) The mode attempts to describe the center by identifying the most popular score.
