After President Kennedy was elected on November 17, 1960 the CIA informed him for the first time of the project, which was later known as Bay of Pigs or Operation Zapata and 24 hours after he took the presidential oath it became his problem, and one of the biggest mistakes of his presidency. Bay of Pigs has importance in history since it was considered one of those rare events in history that through bad organization and decisions was later on known as “The Perfect Failure”. ... By March 14 their were three areas presented: Preston area at the north coast of Oriente providence, south coast of Las Villas between Trinidad and Cien Fuegos, and the eastern Zapata swamps adjoining Cochinos Bay (Bay of Pigs). After the study of the areas by a photogrammetry group in charged of Arthur Lundhal, the selected area for landing was Bay of Pigs. ...
Once the Bay of Pigs plan was presented to the president he did approve it but he continued to make changes to the plans. ... The town of Trinidad had much more advantages over Bay of Pigs like: The town of Trinidad was more distant from Havana away from the main forces, while Bay of Pigs was at a closer range and the forces could get their faster. Both had few access roads, it is true, but Trinidad only had one access road while Bay of Pigs had three access roads. The road in Trinidad could easily be destroyed by just blowing up some bridges while the three roads that lead to Bay of Pig could only be defended not destroyed. The town of Trinidad had a population of 18,000 people, that have always had the reputation of guerrilla friendly people while Bay of Pigs had a small amount of people which support Castro because he changed their way of life to a better one by providing schools and institutions. In case of failure the town of Trinidad is right next to the Escambray Mountains were they could easily hide and find guerrilla people to help them, while Bay of Pigs had no hiding place, it was eight miles away from the Escambray Mountains through swamps and jungles. ... The only advantages that Bay of Pigs had over Trinidad was the fact that their were supposedly no communications facility and the airstrip could handle a B-26, but the air strip in the end was not even used since the air support took off from Nicaraguan soil. ... These officers are young, vigorous, intelligent, and motivated by a fanatical urge o begin battle…”

It was at blue beach that they found that Bay of Pigs did have communication and workers from the resort construction at playa Giron warned the armed forces of the invasion. ... Bay of Pigs is marked in history as the war in which a third world country successfully wins the strongest country in the world, The United States through their actions pushed Fidel Castro to form an alliance with the Soviet Union with the idea of protecting themselves of future invasion. ... Bay of Pigs is a clear example how one may always want to help those in need, but it is not always your job or your problem to help those, as much as you feel obligated. The question is if the location from Trinidad to Bay of Pigs had not been changes could the operation have a successful outcome?
