Like any bad situation, poverty can put a burden on any family or person. In the play A Raisin In The Sun, the Younger family takes the position of poor black folks that live among people of the ghetto in Chicago. With any family being in this dilemma, people would do anything to change their tracks. On the other hand, people have the state of mind that nothing good could happen to them and slowly their hopes and dreams fade away. This is exactly what happened to Ruth Younger. Throughout the play, Ruth’s perspectives and attitude change. She slowly changes from being a pessimist to an optimist, from losing a love to regaining a love, and from accepting the status quo to fighting for change. Eventually, in A Raisin In The Sun, Ruth changes from being a pessimistic to being an optimistic. Throughout the beginning of the play, Ruth seems to be a very negative person.
