Old Kingdom A Time of Pyramids and Pharaohs
I chose the Old Kingdom as my topic because of its extreme importance in the development of Egypt’s civilization. Without events like the construction of pyramids and Menes conquering of Lower Egypt, the society would most certainly not be the same as it is today. The Old Kingdom and its rulers set up the foundation for the centuries which would follow it. The Old Kingdom begins with Menes as ruler of Upper Egypt. ... he conquered Lower Egypt and would, for the first time, unite them under one ruler. ... He set up his capital in Memphis and it would remain there until Amenhotep I moved it to Thebes in the Middle Kingdom. ... The pyramids were built in order to honor the Pharaoh and show his great power. Pharaohs had absolute power over the land, but never demanded that the people work for them.
