Half a Life Book Review
V. ... Naipaul’s novel Half a Life has two major literary elements. ... His father is telling him a story about his life and his difficulties with the government. ... This is just the beginning of his contradicting feelings about his life. ... This ends up leading to him feeling as though he only has “half a life”. ... He now pays very little attention to school and only to having a social life. He befriends some writers, and eventually writes a book while there. After writing the book, he feels he has exposed too much of his life to the World. ... In the mix with all his friends and experiences, he befriends a girl who is interested in his book. ... Yet, at the end of all this, he still feels that he is only living “half a life” and doesn’t find his life completely fulfilled. ... Towards the end of the novel he becomes afraid of another war and feels that he has just been living Ana’s’ life.
