comparision of William and Chelsea in Stripes of the Sidestep wolf
Sonya Hartnett in her novel, ‘Stripes of the Sidestep Wolf’, gives the reader an insight into a number of characters. ... The reader first meets Chelsea at the take-away food shop. ... ” Immediately the reader understands that Chelsea lacks confidence and colour. Chelsea has never been able to forget and move forward from the person she was as a teenager and the memories she had of school. “The day that crushed Chelsea utterly” continued to haunt her, where as most people can look back on episodes of embarrassment and dejection and still move on and not be damaged in our development by the events. In describing Chelsea, Hartnett writes, “She sucked herself in like a snail inflicting herself on no one.” This image of Chelsea creates a sense of a disturbed, sad and lonely person. Chelsea longed for acceptance and friendship but was very wary of exposing herself to people.
