Unit 9 Understanding the text 1. The writer’s main complaint against car drivers is that they are inconsiderate and uncaring making them a danger to cyclist. 2. In this article the writer is addressing everyone who drives a car on the road. 3. The steps he has taken to make sure he cycles safely are he has a fluorescent jacket, halogen headlight, crash helmet covered in scotch light stickers and flashing back lights. 4. An example where the writer uses sarcasm to bring across his point is at the end of the last paragraph where he states “go on, you know it will make me miserable having nothing to moan about”. 5. An example where the writer uses an angry tone is at the beginning of the fourth paragraph where he complains of car users parking in cycling paths.
