Macbeth Is this a dagger Passage Analysis
“Is this a dagger” – passage analysis – Chris Maric. This passage is quoted from Act II, Scene I, lines 32 to the end of the scene of Macbeth by William Shakespeare. During the passage, a dagger appears in front of Macbeth prompting him to finish the task he set out to do. During Act I, Scene VII we find out about Macbeth’s decision to kill king Duncan, albeit being persuaded by Lady Macbeth. In the beginning of Act II, Scene I, we see that Macbeth encounters Banquo. During their encounter they discuss the weird sisters (witches) and then Banquo leaves Macbeth to rest. Yet Macbeth does not rest, he waits for the bell to signal the time to kill Duncan. While he waits, a blood smeared dagger pointing towards the kings den appears before him. The dagger is yet another representation of the supernatural presence we see throughout the book.
