Teamwork, simple definition from dictionary, which is the ability of a group to work well together. Put it in detail, teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common goal, the ability to direct individual accomplishment toward organisational purpose and successful, the power that allows common people to attain uncommon results. Working together can be more effective and efficient than working alone, teamwork brings benefits, also with disadvantages for the team. This research essay is going to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of teamwork in organisations, and what can a team do to ensure the disadvantages do not overwhelm advantages. Firstly, it will consider two main advantages of teamwork that is ¡°Diverse and complementary skills¡± and ¡°Positive interdependence¡±. It will then show two main disadvantages of teamwork that is ¡°Social loafing¡± and ¡°Conflict¡±. ... Teamwork helps to bring them into organisations rather than separate individuals. The whole team can be greater than the sum of its individual members¡¯ abilities, but then, that¡¯s the idea with teamwork in the first place (Straub & Joseph, 1998). ... Another one is the Teamwork at Hewlett-Packard. Complex, interdependent work tasks and activities that require collaboration particularly lend themselves to teamwork (Nelson & Quick, 2003). ...
In the second point of view, teamwork promotes interaction and provides positive interdependence. ... Today¡¯s teamwork in organisation is not only just discussing advantages and disadvantages that involve in it, but also focus on what can management team do to ensure the disadvantages do not overwhelm advantages. ...
