Gattaca by Andrew Niccol is a film that depicts an individual who triumphs over adversity despite the restrictions placed upon him by the society he belongs to. ... Even though the genetically modified characters are guaranteed a better future through more favourable employment prospects, Vincent who’s an ‘In-Valid’ ultimately accomplishes what he dreamed of since childhood by becoming a Navigator at the Gattaca Corporation – (a place for the genetic elite) – by assuming the identity of Jerome Morrow who suffers from the ‘burden of perfection’. ... Vincent lives far beyond his predicted lifespan while maintaining the masquerade that he’s a ‘Valid’ and his courage is admired by all who support him in his endeavour to achieve his dream in spite of the prejudices of the society that Vincent lived in.
While Gattaca asserts that the individual is important, it has to be considered that Vincent had a lot of support in maintaining his deception with the help of his true ‘blood-brother’ Jerome/Eugene, Irene and even the kindly colleague Dr.
