Before the discussion of the media and racism can continue it is important to have some understanding of the history of racial inequality in America. ... The Civil Rights movement raised awareness and ended much of the blattaint racism that occured up until the mid-twentieth century. The mass media continues the tradition of racial inequality. As it stands, our media serves as a crucial method of information which is critically detremental to our societies pursuit of racial equality. The cycle of racism that has existed throughout our countries existence is now supported by the mass media. If we are ever to reach the plateau of true equality we must change the way mass media operates.
