On Wednesday I went to see the play The Laramie Project, which contained about six actors, scenery that was a fence, a chair, a desk, and strategically placed costume racks. While there were only six actors and actresses they were able to use constant costume changes and deviation in there voices to portray an entire town. The dialogue was delivered quickly, clearly, and was very meaningful; everything that was said had a purpose. There wasn’t much banter between the characters as the dialogue was directed more at the audience like the characters were telling a story. Since it felt like the characters were talking to the audience they connected on an almost personal level, which forced the audience to maintain focus and listen to what was being said. One criticism with the direct speaking with the audience is there wasn’t much acting in the sense of action; it was more like listening to a book on tape.
