The Destructors is a fictional story written by Graham Greene. The story takes place in London, England shortly after World War II. The Destructors is about an inner-city crew named the Wormsley Common Gang. The time-period was on the weekend of the August Bank Holiday, which was a common three-day weekend celebrated by most people of London. Many families in London at this time were living in poverty at Subway Stations as a result of the war. One boy in particular named Trevor was used to having money since his father was once an architect. He became leader of the Wormsley Gang and met a man named Mr. Thomas. Mr. Thomas owned the only house that survived the bombings during WWII and he kept his house well taken care of. One day Trevor asked to explore Mr. Thomas’ house and he became astonished by how beautiful the house was. This instantly made Trevor jealous of Mr. Thomas’ house so he had his gang destroy the house. Trevor felt like if he couldn’t have a beautiful house like Mr. Thomas‘, no one else could either. 1. The protagonist in this story is Trevor. He is the protagonist in this story because he battles with conflicts in this story that are presented by the antagonist, which is Mr. Thomas. Mr. Thomas is the antagonist because he causes the conflict in this story by having the beautiful house. This in return caused jealousy from Trevor to Mr. Thomas. The conflict in the story is emotional because Trevor is dealing with problems within himself.
