A fantastic and thoughtful movie, Gattaca does not merely present a possible future where human beings are dominated by unbridled technology; it is also a story celebrate the power of dream. By depicting Vincent¡¯s untiring pursuit of his dream and Jerome¡¯s dramatic life rewritten by a new dream, in a society where dreaming is not necessary, as a person¡¯s destiny is mapped out by DNA analysis seconds after his birth, Gattaca argues that without dream we are nothing.
Dream endows human beings their uniqueness. People in Gattaca celebrate their advance in technology, using genetic engineering to produce ¡°superior¡± human beings. ... In Gattaca, every engineer is ¡°perfect¡± human being. ...
Vincent¡¯s success is motivated by his dream. Without dream, Vincent¡¯s life will not be different to those ¡°In-Valid¡± people. ... He can accept this unbearable fact and dies at the age as predicted as an unknown ¡°In-Valid¡±, but he chooses a more difficult path ¨C strive to achieve his dream of becoming an astronaut. Since only genetically perfect human beings are allowed to enter Gattaca, his craving of going into space gives him the courage to purchase a fake identity.
