In Adaptation, the introduction of Charlie Kaufman is not through a visual shot, showing us what he looks like. Instead, the first knowledge that we receive of Charlie’s character is during the opening credits, through a voice-over that shows us how he thinks. ... However, it succeeds in voicing the thoughts of Kaufman, a man who tends to speak little and only when necessary. The voice-over gives us as an intimate look into Charlie’s mind and we realize that he is enormously insecure, possibly very intelligent, and from what he thinks, not very good looking.
