“The Musgrave Ritual” Sherlock Holmes is a proud investigator. Rarely have found him to fail in his adventures or let his clients down. Most importantly he enjoys his work immensely. He will drop everything for a new case. Holmes gets satisfaction out of his accomplishments throughout his work. In various stories we get a glimpse of this pride, especially in “The Musgrave Ritual.” We learn early on that Holmes is one of the best detectives there is. Doyle compares homes to police and other detectives that still reside in Holmes for the answer. Prior to the description of the case in Musgrave Ritual there are two suggestive examples that Watson notes about Holmes’s ego. Holmes’s egotistic qualities are identified by this quote, “Yes, my boy; these were all done prematurely before my biographer had come to glorify me.” The key words in this particular quote are glorify me.
