Although there are many forms of authority, I choose to look at the basis for man’s concept of authority, the family. It is my belief that one learns their definition of authority in the family, therefore I hope to look at three different ancient cultures that were existent during biblical times and see how each family was ruled. By this I hope to have a better understanding of what authority looked like in the ancient mind and maybe this will shed light upon biblical authority.
First I would like to focus on the Roman family as this ancient family unit and it’s culture would have had great influence upon the biblical world.
