... The language that is being taught in schools and written in Jamaica is predominantly the English language. However, a very large percentage of the Jamaican population speaks the Jamaican Creole.
The Standard English often referred to as the “Queen’s English” was originated in London in the 15th century and brought to the Caribbean and other countries in the world by the English.
On the other hand the Jamaica Creole is a distinct language, which has taken most of its vocabulary from the English language. The Creole language which is also known as the western Caribbean English has been a unique language since the beginning of the 19th century and was developed out of a situation where the slaves tried to communicate with their English speaking masters.
