Pursuasive 16 year olds should vote

“If you are old enough to fight and die and kill for a country, you ought to be old enough to vote on the policies of the country,” says Curtis Gans of the Committee for Study of the American Electorate. ... It is those people who cannot, or choose not to see past our youthful appearance and recognize our capability, responsibility, and maturity to vote for the laws and policies that affect us and this country. Although some teenagers are not ready to vote, the majority are. Therefore, the legal voting age should be lowered to sixteen. To begin with, sixteen-year-olds work and pay taxes, and should have a say in where their taxes go. ... These logical arguments should result in lowering America’s voting age requirement. ... Having heard that, does it not make sense to allow those same hard-working citizens to vote and have a say in where their taxes go? ... Even though it is not required to graduate, next year’s class won’t have the privilege of opting out of the testing, and passing the CIM will be required for them to receive their honors diploma. ... In that same way, any teenager should be able to voice their opinion on their state superintendent or any other elected official affecting them. They should also be able to vote on issues of education itself. Of course, some say that they are not responsible enough to make those decisions, however, teens who take the initiative to vote can and will be responsible enough to vote for actions that will benefit them and the youth of the future. ... As well as seeing underage teens become emancipated, I have seen myself take on the “burdens” of life; it may not be true for all youth, but I, and a majority, are ready to vote.
