What affect does globalisation have on the global environment?
Globalisation is a universal theory that aims to increase a nation’s prosperity by introducing that nation to the world market, through increases in trade and investment. There are many globalisation sceptics out there, who doubt the effectiveness of this economic approach for several different reasons. Some sceptics criticise globalisation’s ability to enhance economic prosperity by reducing poverty, increasing employment opportunities and increasing income equality. Other sceptics focus their attention on the damage globalisation causes to the environment, on both a local and global level. Global trade and investment has increased dramatically since the mid twentieth century, soon after World War II, and many environmental concerns have escalated as well during his time. Some environmentalists and researchers believe globalisation is responsible for the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, world-wide deforestation and increasing use of pesticides and fertilizers that all contribute to global warming. ...
