Aims of Organisational learning

Learning is a conscious attempt on the part of organisations to retain and improve competitiveness, productivity and innovativeness in uncertain technological and market circumstances. The more the uncertainties, the greater the need for learning, organizations learns in order to improve their adaptability and efficiency during times of change. Learning also increases information sharing, communication, understanding and quality of decisions made in organisations

Types of Organisational Learning

Single-loop learning: This is a process by which we learn to reach our current goals in the context of our existing mental models. Single-loop learning in the management process does not result in a deep change in our mental models ¡V our understanding of the system we are managing, the time horizon we consider relevant, or our goals and values. Single-loop learning can be equated to activities that add to the knowledge base or firm specific competencies or routines without altering the fundamental nature of the organisations activities. ... Such learning involves the creation of new knowledge about understanding the situation and leads to new strategies, decision rules, it involves changing the organisations knowledge base or firm specific competencies or routines and new organisational structures, not just new decisions.
