A Hard Lesson to Learn Adam Henderson barged into the room with huge tears rolling down his face. “Wayne is dead,” he said through the sobs. Suddenly, the words of my teacher, Mrs. Owen, quickly faded away. The lecture she was giving on the correct usage of pronouns could not compare with the lesson that my classmates and I were about to learn. On that day, we learned not to take anything or anyone for granted, because none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. I will never forget that day. I can still hear those words as clearly as if it had happened yesterday. Adam then continued, “ Wayne had a head on wreck about two miles from the school.” At that moment a million thoughts were going through my mind. I had lost a friend and a classmate. I was in shock. This had to be a mistake. Maybe someone was wrong and it really wasn’t Wayne in the accident. I had just finished studying with him for an English test. How could this happen so quickly? At that point, everything turned to complete chaos. Students and teachers were rushing around the halls trying to find out details of the accident. Students were pulling out their cell phones trying to find someone with more information. At that point, no one seemed to care that these phones were forbidden in the school.
