Hardware Accuracy of data input is important so that errors are not made. Error in data can effect the entire organization negatively. Below you will find methods of data input that would best describe printed questionnaires, telephone surveys, bank checks, retail tags, and long documents. Printed questionnaires: The best method of data input is using a keyboard so that the questionnaires can be typed up and printed out. Telephone surveys: The best method of data input is using voice recognition so that software can be trained to interpret users answers over the phone. Bank checks: The best method of data input is using Magnetic Ink Character Recognition, which recognizes the character at the bottom of checks and can make adjustments to accounts as they are scanned into the system (UOP 81). Retail tags: The best method of data input is using a bar code scanner because a scanner can scan an item and input the information into the computer faster than a person can type each individual number on a tag. Long documents: The best method of data input is using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) because a document can be placed into a scanner and scanned in a fraction of the time it would take to retype a document. After being scanned, the document is available for editing. There are many different options when it comes to input devices. It is good to know what each device does so that a person can decide which method would best suit business needs.
