Jack Kilby was born in 1923 in Missouri and was raised in Great Bend, Kansas by his parents Hubert and Vina Freitag Kilby. Jack spent a lot of time with his father at his place of work, the Kansas Power Company. This type of work stimulated Jack’s interest and he was on the fast track to becoming an engineer. Jack attended the University of Illinois and despite a World War II hiatus, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1947. ...
Kilby’s first job was for the Centralab Division of Globe Incorporated in 1947 developing and designing circuits for electronics.
