CURSED Those of us that live in New England know of "The Curse." Without saying anything further, you know exactly what I am referring to. In fact, those two single words alone immediately convey thoughts of years of frustration for members of Red Sox Nation. Over the years the Curse has been a fixture in New England sports culture. Nineteen-hundred and eighteen is a benchmark number for Red Sox fans. Perhaps 1918 is more significant than the numbers 1, 4, 8, 9, and 27 which have been retired in honor of past Red Sox legends. Of course, 1918 is the year in which the Red Sox last won the World Series. Soon after that the Red Sox traded George Herman "Babe" Ruth to the New York Yankees. Thus began the "Curse of the Bambino." Over the years I’ve witnessed that Red Sox fans can handle almost any type of emotional let-down. Being a hardcore Red Sox fan requires a lot of dedication, faith, and the state-of-mind that we are going to be heartbroken year after year. Last year I thought that it was the year that the Red Sox would finally win the World Series. Boston had the best offensive team in baseball, breaking the record for most runs scored in a single season.
