Susanna woke up to the smell of pancakes and coffee coming from the kitchen, and realized that today she would be starting at the new high school. She had been dreading this day since they moved to Pine Valley. Susanna already noticed how the other teenagers looked at her like they never seen an african american before. She knew that look all too well, it's the look she always got before the other people started to tease and taunt her. Susanna had to move around a lot because both her parents were writers and they liked to be in different settings every year. Of course this was hard on Susanna's self confidence as it would be on any child's. The hallways were crowded but that didn't stop everybody from focusing on the one person who knew they were talking about her, Susanna. She could alreasy see it was going to be a hard first day. When she arrived at the principal's office he even looked at her with a sneer as if she disgusted him.
