The Indian drama “Pather Panchali” is about the daily life of a struggling family of four. The father, Harihar, is an accountant and dreams of becoming a successful writer, but must also find work in order to support the family. His wife, Sarbajaya, has to make ends meet while Harihar travels off to find work. Durga, their daughter, has problems stealing from the neighbors, which causes Sarbajaya to be ashamed of her. Apu, the young son, is quite innocent and gets little influence from Durga. Harihar believes that whatever happens to them, is what God intended. This is one downfall that causes them to go into poverty.
