Salvation Essay
Religion is a very interesting and personal subject for almost everyone throughout the world. ... In the essay Salvation, Langston Hughes does an excellent job in showing how much of an influence elders in society have on their kin or children in society. ... Throughout the essay Hughes relays many different messages and personal beliefs about expressing and teaching religion. In saying that, I feel that the most blatant message Hughes tried to bring to light, was religion at first, is not a physical experience, thought it can be, but a psychological belief initially. Right from the beginning and continually through the essay, pressure from the people at the revival mounts. At the start Hughes describes the churchgoers expressing somewhat positive pressures on him and the other children. ... However, as the piece continues these verbal pressures from the elders begin to demand physical progress from Langston. ... ” With the entire congregation, especially his Aunt, whom Langston a twelve year old boy, believed in, all telling him that this revival was a physical experience, no wonder he waited. ... Hughes does a great job using his own painful experience to show how much adults can influence their kin or young people in society.
