Halifax was well chosen as the departure city for RMS Titanic's 2004 expedition to the wreck site as the city has many historical ties to the Titanic. Passengers Hilda Slayter, a singer, and George Wright a prominent real estate magnate made their homes there. The cable ship Mackay-Bennet left Halifax to collect the bodies of Titanic’s victims. The churches that held memorial services still grace the streets, and the Public Archives of Nova Scotia hold a treasure trove of information on the disaster. A permanent exhibition called “Titanic: The Unsinkable Ship and Halifax” is installed at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
