Christain denominations

Practice GCSE Questions 2a) Two Christian denominations that have different views on remarriage and divorce are Roman Catholic and the Church of England. Roman Catholics have quite a strict view on remarriage and divorce. They believe that the sacrament of marriage binds two people together for life, and so should not be ended by a divorce and they are married until the other partner dies. The Roman Catholic faith does not recognise a civil divorce; if they have been married in a church then they remain married in the eyes of God. However in serious circumstances, such as someone’s partner will not let them practice the Roman Catholic faith, then the marriage can be dissolved. Though domestic violence and alcoholism are not reasons to dissolve a marriage. Another option for a Roman Catholic is to get the marriage annulled. An annulment is slightly different from a divorce. An annulment is when the church agrees that the marriage was never real in the first place. Getting an annulment take a lot of time and serious questioning. They couple still have to get a civil divorce as well as an annulment from the Church. However a divorce for a Christian in the Church of England denomination is a lot simpler. The Church of England recognises a civil divorce as the end of a marriage because sometimes divorce happens. This way the church does not have to get involved and both partners are free to marry again. If someone wants to marry his or her new partner in a church this is usually allowed.
