Why did the Frankfurt Parliament fail to bring about unification? There are many reasons why the Frankfurt parliament failed to bring about unification in Germany. These include that it had moral power only, that it was shown to be weak by the Schleiswig-Holstein question, Economic depression, Gustav von Streuve, and Fredrick Williams turning down of the throne. The first reason for the Frankfurt parliaments failure was that its authority was moral only. This was shown when large states such as Austria and Prussia refused to let their troops swear an oath of allegiance to Archduke John, while the parliament tried in vain to coerce them . It was clear that the Frankfurt parliament relied solely on the co-operation of other states, and had no power of their own, as they had no army to enforce their rulings.
