In Farenheit 451, people live in a world where they are blinded from the truth of the present and past. Books and written documents are banned from the people and it is the firemen's job to burn illegally owned books. Some people have even hidden Books and have been helping each other read them. These are the people who, through reading books are trying to escape from the ignorance in this society. In farenheit 451,censorship leads ignorance in a society. Mildred, Montage"'"s wife, is one example of a very benighted person like everyone else in this society. For example, she thinks characters on TV are her family and she has conversations with them (p46). This shows that she is very stupid and she is lacking knowledge. This is because she is always either watching tv or listening to music. Another example, when Montag is sick and asks for aspirin, she says '"' you have never been sick …. You acted funny last night'"' and she tries to change the topic (p49). This shows that she doesn"'"t listen to others, and if she doesn"'"t feel like doing something then she doesn"'"t do it.
