Gretchen Quill Freshman English – 11101 TF Essay #2 Prof. Kevin Keating September 30, 2003 Racism in America Oh God! Here we go again. Why is it that most of my White co-workers think I am the voice for the Black race or assume I should know certain things because I am Black? Oh. I know they all don’t mean any offense by their questions. It’s just…Damn. At times, I want to scream “I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout birthin’ no babies, I don’t know how to work the social service benefit card machine at the Smokes for Less outlet and I sure as hell don’t know why Rev. Al Sharpton wears his hair in that “conked” style.” What I do know is, if you treat me in the manner in which you desire to be treated, we shouldn’t have any misunderstandings or problems. How I wish it was that simple. If it were, racism would not exist in America.
