Career Paper Growing up on a farm makes every little boy want to walk in his dads footsteps. Then there are times in your life where you have to make a decision, do I want to farm and will I be happy if I choose to farm? I have thought about this a lot and I believe that I will be happier to become a machinist. Machine work interests me a lot more than farming, but farming is also fun. Going to work at 7 and being home every night before 6, that sounds a lot better then working late in the spring and fall. When it comes to farming, it involves some really late nights. So knowing that you only have to work 8 hour days 5 days a week and working overtime when you want then being a machinist sounds like a job for me. The Holland Game is a test that you take to figure out what interests you have towards Career options. These codes give you many different career options. The job occupations that interested me the most all had R’s in the code, such as RI. There are many different combinations to use this code for. My top three letter scores for the Holland test were R(48), I(11), A(10). My highest score which was a lot higher then the others was R. The R stands for Realistic which means doers; I am a doer because I like to work with my hands. Realistic(r) resembles those who are mechanically inclined, systematic, and athletic people. It also implies those who can fix electrical things, read a blueprint, operate tools and machinery, play a sport, and solve electrical problems. Hobbies include tinkering with machines/ vehicles, being physically active, building things, working on electronic Stuckenschneider 2 equipment, and working with your hands. Possible jobs include being a machinist, electrician, mechanic (diesel or automotive), farmer, and an engineer. My other scores were lower because they involve sitting at desk jobs and deal more with governmental careers, plus I am more of an active person. Investigative (I) was my next highest score, which includes those who like to solve math problems, think abstractly, and can interpret equations.
