Music and Art also allow the artist to promote their views on world disasters or problems, thus music and art alike, act as the perfect emotional outlet for their problems and frustrations. ... For musicians, graphic design helps to both project an ‘image’ or promote their music in a new, fresh and more modern way therefore appealing to the younger generations amongst us. Graphic design is a very versatile form of artwork and it can encompass a numerous range of styles of music. In the development of my graphic body of work this year I have researched the connection between the Musician and the Artist. I looked at specific graphic designers for inspiration including David Carson, Neville Brody, Brett Kilroe and Robin C. ... Inc who produced a range of products including graphic design related music packaging and artwork. Neville Brody is an English graphic designer whose work arose from the punk movement of the early 1980s. His range of knowledge and experience in the graphic design industry is broad, with work such as designing record and compact disk covers, working as art director for numerous magazines as well as creating book cover designs and numerous typefaces. Brodys’ use of typography has influenced my work by the way in which he complements his work with an ideological preface, thereby ensuring that his design portray his ideas and concepts instead of just being fashionable and attractive. ... This language helped to change the face of the media and has played a major part in forming what we know as post-modern design. David Carson has been and continues to be one of the most influential graphic designers of the 1990’s. Carson has been involved in advertising for brands such as Nike, Pepsi, MTV and Sony along with design of magazines such as Transworld Skateboarding, Surfer Magazine, Beach Culture and Ray Gun. Carson is arguably the most innovative and influential graphic designers of the century. ... Carson sees graphic design as a form of communication, to a specific audience, not to a wide range of viewers.
