Fashion Trends’ Change What will people do to be accepted? ... Fashion trends have fluctuated greatly because of the influence of celebrities and social standards. Fashion is something that has varied throughout the years; it often has the connotation of changing rapidly and unpredictably. The World Book Encyclopedia states, “Fashion, in its broadest sense, is a particular style that is popular for a few months or years.” Fashion, therefore, has changed often, especially throughout the 1900s. Fashion trends have varied greatly throughout the years and often reflect the mood of America at the time. ... During the 1930s there was a much more dismal air in fashion because of the depression (Miller 67). ... The first appearance of baggy pants for men appeared in the “Zoot” look- loose-fitting clothes with a wide-brimmed hat and greased back hair (Miller 75) The arrival of the 1950s was a fun time for fashion (Tyler 7). ... According to Columbia Encyclopedia, 1970s and 1980s brought about a much more casual look for both men and women and thinned the line between men and women’s fashion. ... During the 1980s, for the first time in history, famous brand names such as Nike and Reebok had an effect on fashion. ... The 1990s brought a new mix to fashion. Teenagers classified themselves as “rockers” or “rappers” depending on the music they listened to, but a common fashion trend in this time was baggy, loose fitting pants for boys, and tight, revealing clothing for girls (Tyler 9). In conclusion, fashion has changed very much so in the twentieth century into what is common in society at the time, and into what is accepted in any given decade.
