Is Televised Violence as Bad as We Make it Out to Be
One of the biggest problems since the invention of the television is the effects of violence on society. Many people and critics try to wipe televised violence out, but will most definitely fail. ... There have even been studies showing that watching television violence will actually relieve stress. For these reasons televised violence, including fights, with or without weapons, resulting in bloodshed, will never be removed from the air. ... Most parents just want to do what is right for their kids and that is keeping them from bad things. I’ve experienced that no matter how much parents try to shelter kids from violence and cursing at home there is no possible way to completely shelter them from it outside of the home. ... I interviewed my own parents asking them why they kept us from watching shows with a lot of violence and cursing and they said “We tried to keep you from watching those kinds of things so hopefully you wouldn’t pick up on them and behave or act like what you saw on TV.” Many parents try to shelter their kids from the violence shown on television. They only look at the negative aspect because the parents complain by saying the violence only teaches their children how to kill and to get away with it. ... Violence is an important fact of life. ... The media cannot pretend that violence does not exist. Televised violence shows people what their environment is really like. ... Exposing children to televised violence is good because it helps prepare them for reality.
