The pervasive use of high fat foods for school lunch entrees has been reported and even the Department of Health and Human Services and the United States Department of Agriculture, who supports school lunch programs with food commodities and actual cash assistance, acknowledges that school lunches are too fatty and have contributed to the ever increasing girth of children. So the questions comes to this, what can be done to increase awareness of proper nutrition, and establish a more solid foundation of proper dietary habits? There are numerous ways to improve school lunches, such as forming a school and community Nutrition Task Force composed of teachers, counselors, administrative personal, cafeteria staff, dietary director, parents and students to study how school lunches could be improved.
