How did the League of Nations work
The League of Nations was an organisation which was set up in 1920, after the Paris Peace Conference, to solve international problems without resorting to war, it was an international ‘Police force’. ... He wanted the League to be like a World parliament where all nations could send representatives to decide on any international matter. ... France, had a different point of view, she proposed a Military-strong League which possessed its own army. Finally, in spite of the fact that USA never joined the League it worked as President Wilson wanted. ... He thought that the League of Nation’s most important members would be all the major nations with the condition that they had to disarm. Moreover, they had to promise to accept any decision made by the league and to ask for advice to the league if they had a dispute with another country. ... Despite Wilson’s Idealism and arrogance, which his enemies hated, most Europeans were prepared to give his plan a try because of one important reason: they hoped that no country would dare invade another, if she knew that USA and the other nations with stop trading goods with her or send their armies to stop her attack. Woodrow Wilson also had problems with Americans who opposed the League and with his Congress whose approval was needed before any decision was made. Firstly, a group of Americans – including millions of German immigrants who had never liked the idea of USA entering a war against their native nation and also hated the Treaty of Versailles which was harming German economy- which wanted America to take no part in the League of Nations.
