Throughout the story you get to “watch” Imani and how she grows and changes throughout her first and only year of life and you get to tap into Tashas most private and personal thoughts that give you a whole new outlook on what’s going on with her. ... Everything down to the pronunciation of words was all in the black and ghetto lingo of Buffalo New York. ... It made you feel like you was actually in the hood with Imani and Tasha and you were first-handily overhearing the conversation.
Throughout the story you get to know Imani and Tasha, as well as all the people who have had a major impact on their life. ... First person and of all the most helpful to Tasha was her mother, Earlene. ... She taught Tasha how to take care of Imani and only stepped in to help once in a while. Although she never told Tasha or Imani she loved them, she showed her love in a different way, she showed her daughter who “screwed up her life” how to still live her life to the fullest and untwist her twisted world back to normal.
