The Seed Lab’s purpose was to predict the effects of acid solutions on the germination of seeds (radish seeds) and compare it to regular seed growth with water (a pH of 7). ... The hypothesis that was developed for the effects on the seeds with an acidic pH value, which was three in our group’s case, was the germination will cause growth of the seed to be slower, and the seed will perhaps be discolored, soft, unstable, and will not contain all its nutrients. The materials needed for the lab were two metric rulers, 250 ml beaker, mold inhibitor, two plastic bags, paper towels, water solutions, two different pH values (3 and 7), and a sheet of graph paper. ... The results to this lab are shown below in the data table:
Number of seeds used Ph value Number of seeds that germinated Observation 1 Number of seeds that germinated Obervation2 Number of seeds that germinated Observation 3
10 7 8 8 9
10 3 2 4 7
The results above show that overall, more seeds germinated from a pH solution of seven than a pH solution of 3 (more acidic). ... Below is a table examining the observation on seed length with each of the pH solutions:
Number of seeds used Ph value Seed size
Day 0 Seed size Day2 Seed size
Day 4-5 Seed size
Day 7-10
10 7 3mm 4.
