Feminism in ‘Saving Francesca’ is widely dealt with but not expanded upon. In the book, feminism is demonstrated in many ways, such as when the girls of St Sebastians’ constantly fight off insults and allegations put down by the boys.
Francesca is heavily molded by influential people, her mother Mia and Angelica. ... Francesca’s relationship with Mia is very strong, even though they don’t necessarily verbally communicate it to each other but they know that they are both the same blood and have to stick together to get through all the hardships faced in the book. When Mia steps down as one of the heads of the house, Francesca immediately feels an imbalance and questions the way that her father Robert runs the household. Francesca needs Mia to step in and take control, because she knows the family better and has stronger leadership qualities than Robert, due to her experience as a teacher. ...
The situation in Francesca’s school is very masculine and driven towards providing a good environment for boys, not girls.
