In today’s society, the law says that parents have certain duties to their children. ... This act explains in great detail that the parents have the full responsibility in taking care of the child. ... Parents teach their children about a variety of subjects: don’t talk to strangers, look both ways before you cross, the birds and the bees, and put your seat belt on. It is wonderful that they do that but what about expanding those rules to the use of the internet? When the internet is used appropriately it can be a very educational tool, but it is the parents’ responsibility to monitor the use of it.

A study was done where parents and children were interviewed and unfortunately 62 percent of parents were unaware that their children have acceded objectionable websites, and 43 percent of children said they do not have rules about the internet www. ... Thus, parents need to have constant involvement in their children’s use of the internet. It is vital that the parents monitor the children’s use of the internet just like they monitor their eating habits. ... Children are committing crimes because the parents are not aware of what their children are doing.
