Institutions that teach nursing, have in recent years integrated content on political changes, policy development and government influences to the health care system into the curriculum. RNAO (2004) has capitalized on this new trend by recognizing the capabilities of nursing students through the Nursing Students of Ontario organization and the Student of Distinction Award. The programs mentioned help students become involved in making a difference toward health care as well as addressing the issues confronting the nursing profession in general. ...
RNAO needs to strengthen the voice of nursing students and new graduates by removing the barriers that prevent them from being politically active.
