Realization

Many people say dreams come true. I cannot believe them. In the small town of Oley Valley, Pennsylvania, most people never leave. These people, the so-called townies, are born here, grow up here, get jobs here, and marry here. They never adventure out in to the world. For them, Oley Valley is the world. This is the same for me, Bridgette Colewell. Well, it's almost the same. Everyone has dreams. Yes, now that I know is true. I even realize that each person’s goals are different. Some may say that since the townies never leave or go to college that they must not have goals, but this is not true. Almost all of them do have dreams. They may be simple dreams, but they are enough to inspire townies to work hard to achieve them. For example, some of their dreams are to obtain a certain job, become someone’s apprentice, or raise a big family. While they may seem simple, these dreams are fulfilling to the wishful dreamers. I on the other hand had different dreams, big dreams, and a chance to fulfill them. Not that my goals are better than the townies or that townies cannot amount to anything. I know for a fact they can, such as my friend’s brother who went to Yale and became a doctor. There are always a rare few who escape this run-down town, but the others never get the opportunity to leave. When I was younger I loved to dance. I would dance everywhere I went. I would dance when music was playing and when music was not playing. Even though I had many other talents, all I wanted to do with my life was dance. I could sing, play the flute, play the guitar, and play volleyball, but none of these inspired me as much as dancing did. When I started high school I worked hard to get good grades and danced during all my free time. By my sophomore year I was sure that I wanted to be a choreographer as soon as I got out of college. I was determined during my teen years not to give in to the easy life, the towny life. In my junior year, I received a full scholarship to Julliard. My dreams were coming true, and nothing could stop them. Or so I thought. As I mentioned earlier, not many people in Oley Valley get to leave.
