Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 1. Exposition A. Biblical times B. I feel that the playwright was trying to tell a very important Biblical story while still trying to fill seats. I think he took a very fun and adventurous story and made it so that audience would not feel like it was Sunday. But to me personally, had this play been written for strictly my own enjoyment, I would get the impression that this story had been preformed for not just me but also for those around me as well as those acting in the play. Because it looked like just a barrel of monkeys to act in. C. Setting: The general setting of this play is Egypt, in the time when pharos ruled over the sands. The stage was a colorful reminder of Africa the best that is could have been. As far as main scenes went, Joseph was in many different places. Such as a jail or a temple, or outside walking behind a camel with his new owners. 2. Character A. Joseph is the protagonist because he is the main character, he gets down on his luck but keeps constant faith that God will take care of him and he is taken care of. Joseph is his fathers favorite son, and once he is sold away by his brothers he is soon made head advisor to the pharo. B. Joseph’s brothers are the antagonists, the sell him away and then lie to his father and tell him that he was killed by a lion.
