The world's smallest nano-computers are being conceived based on individual molecules rather than silicon. These molecular computers, expected to be available in 20 years, are fundamentally the same as natural "machines" such as trees and plants or even human beings. The cost required to produce molecular machinery, also known as nanotechnology, is expected to be extremely cheap. After all, the cost of growing a tree, is insignificant compared to building a silicon computer or a robot arm. Like natural machines today, many of these molecular computers will also be self-replicating. This technology will radically change the world as we know it. The changes experienced during the Industrial Revolution will be miniscule in comparison to the changes anticipated with nanotech.
