The words that came out of Season Barnette’s mouth were “After being
formally introduced to black culture through a class, I realized that I enjoy writing
articles and essays about black culture and will definitely pursue writing as a career
in the future,”( Barnette, Kapu Sens,Pg-123) are ones that relate to what this book is
all about. ... For example he says “My generation must stay informed
of the real life issues we face,” ( Bolden, Kapu Sens, Pg-8) makes the reader,
especially if young relate to it in one way or another. ... ”( Chambers, Kapu Sens,Pg 22-23) He asks this
question a couple of times in his poem to a print this question in the readers mind, so
when done reading you can really ask this question to yourself and to only realize that
you probably know very little about the ghetto. ... ”( Chambers, Kapu Sens, Pg 68) This I like because he is telling the truth. ... When Desiree Allen said that “ Blacks are looked
upon as black ugly and savage,”(Allen, Kapu Sens,Pg 131) unfortunately some people
who are very discriminating and don’t have respect for others say these kind of harsh
things. ... When he says “The
Cosbys are portrayed as a white family in blackface,”( Allen, Kapu Sens, Pg 132)
meaning that the show is acting like a white family but with black actors. ...
As I reflect upon the years that now lie ahead of me in the embarking upon
the journey towards higher education, I think about great books or publications such
as Kapu Sens and say to myself this is what it’s all about. ... This is the way these amazing
young scholars who are published in Kapu Sens are being rewarded.
