Gillette Mach 3 Razor

... Examples of these “product mistakes” include: Crystal Pepsi, the “New Coke”, Olestra (by Procter and Gamble), and the Gillette Mach III razor (Surowiecki, 1998). Out of all of these products previously listed, the only product known to still be on the market is the Gillette Mach III razor. One of the reasons why the story of the Mach III razor is considered unique is because of the costs and time involved in bringing this product to the market. Manx, the original name for the Mach III razor blade, was originally approved by the current CEO and Chairman of Gillette Coleman Mockler, until his untimely death. The original goal when the idea of a new razor was to “sustain the rapid profit growth” of Gillette, and to help maintain its corner of the market share (66% in the male and 70% of the female shaving market) within the razor industry (Surowiecki, 1998).
