Centered in the Andes Mountains, the Incas had a remarkable approach to agriculture. Because of the high altitude, cold climate conditions and isolation, the Incas developed elaborate storage facilities every mile from each village or city to replenish travelers, and supply military troops. ... Because of their vast storage capabilities, the Incas were able to survive drought or famine, and in turn replenishing what they had used in times of plenty. The Incas’ main crops included, maize, cotton, potatoes, an edible root called oca, and grain know as quinoa. ... Differentiation
